The Bible:

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the Inspired Word of God.  The Scriptures are the inerrant, and infallible Word of God, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life.  The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to man.  The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by the Church. (2 Tim. 3:16-17, 2 Pet. 1:20-21)

The Godhead:

We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections.  (1 John 1:7-10)

We believe that the Bible teaches there is only one way of salvation.  That salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Who was born of a virgin, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of sins, and arose from the dead on the third day.  That the believer is sealed by the Holy Spirit of God, unto the day of redemption.  (John 1:12; Eph. 1:7, 2:8-10, 4:20; 1 Pet. 1:18-19;    John 14:6)

We believe that the Church, which is the body and espoused bride of Christ, is solely made up of born again persons ( 1 Cor. 12:12-14; 2 Cor 11:2; Eph. 1:22-23, 5:25-27)  We believe that the establishment and continuance of local Churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27, 20:17, 28-32;    1 Tim. 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11)

July-August 2011

We greet you in the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Once again it is a real joy to update you on the ministries at Gospel Broadcasting.  Let me first start with the church--the Mountain Top Baptist Mission.  As most of you know, we are trying to plant a fundamental, independent Baptist church here in the mountains.  We saw our first convert saved at the end of July--a man who was very deeply in religion.  We were able to lead him to the Lord by preaching the Word of God.  What a change in this dear brother since he has received the Lord Jesus as His Saviour!  If no one else gets saved, it was worth our trip coming to the mountains. Let me say that these people here have deep roots in religion and tradition.  To build a church here it, it is going to take much patience, much time, and much effort.  Please be in prayer for Kristi and myself.  I realize that the Lord will build the church, but we must labor, and labor hard here to see that God’s will be done.  I believe that God wants to do great things here in the mountains.  I sense a little touch of revival among the people.

All the ministries at Gospel Broadcasting are doing well.  On Father’s Day, June 19th, we suffered a major lightning strike to our WCOK Radio station which probably cost upwards of $5000.  Much of our equipment was damaged in the control room.  However, our insurance is going to cover most if not all the cost.  What a blessing.  We have spent out a lot of money the past 2-3 months.  We had to roof one of the buildings in Sparta that houses some equipment at our tower site.  Also, we are working on a major project for WYZD in Dobson.  We hope to make a big announcement at the end of the year concerning WYZD Radio.

God is doing great things for us.  As the Bible says, there is an open door but many adversaries.  I believe that what we need from the church—yes we need your continued financial support, but we need your prayers.  If we are not currently on your prayer list, please place us on it.  If you would like for us to come by your church on a Wednesday evening and update our work, I would be glad to schedule a time with you where we might do that.

We are also continuing to send out many preaching CDs to many people.  It is a blessing that we are able to get out the preached Word of God on CD.  I find that God is using the modern technology to get his word to the people.  If you are a pastor or a preacher and you are looking for a good ministry, I hope you will pray about radio.  Radio is a great ministry.  We have many spots available on both our stations and both our internet stations.  I will be happy to talk with you about that.  I know that radio reaches people.  I have been doing this for over twenty-five years and let me say that radio is a great tool.  People will listen to radio when they will not read a book or watch a TV program.  People will tune into the radio when they are at work or are in their cars or wherever they may be.

Please continue to pray for us.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at anytime.  Thanks again for your support and your prayers and for letting us be your missionaries to the mountains and also to the world by way of radio.

Your missionary in the name of Jesus,

Ricky Cothren

About Bro.Ricky Cothren

“Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)  Bro. Ricky Cothren’s life and ministry exemplifies this verse.  Bro. Ricky was born blind because of cataracts in 1966. His family did not have the money to afford the surgeries to remove the cataracts and help give him his sight. God, however, provided a miracle that gave Bro. Ricky some of his sight.  Someone placed an ad in the local newspaper about him and how he needed the money for the surgery.  A copy of the newspaper made its way into the hands of some soldiers who were fighting in the Vietnam War.  After they saw the ad, they took up money to pay for the surgery.  Through several surgeries, Bro. Cothren was able to receive much of his sight.

On January 22, 1978, at eleven years old, Bro. Ricky got saved by the grace of God.  When his pastor gave him a giant print Bible the following year, Bro. Cothren began studying and meditating on the Scriptures.  Bro. Ricky even created his own Bible teaching cassette tapes for his family and friend.  No one realized then that the Lord was preparing him for the radio ministry.

At the age of eighteen, Bro. Ricky announced his call to preach the Gospel and was determined to serve God wherever and however God wanted him to serve. During his late twenties, he lost much of his sight due to glaucoma and is now legally blind.  He has never let the limitations of his sight limit what he can do for the Lord.  Over the course of his ministry, God has opened several doors for him to preach—homes, fire departments, jails, churches, and the radio.  The Lord also allowed him to pastor four churches.

Bro. Ricky Cothren founded Gospel Broadcasting in 1999 with $700 in a coffee can with the vision of one day owning a radio station.  In 2002, Gospel Broadcasting purchased its first radio station—WYZD Radio in Dobson, North Carolina. Gospel Broadcasting continues to grow as Bro. Ricky remains faithful to serving God.

After praying for a wife for fifteen years, Bro. Ricky Cothren met his future wife, Mrs. Kristi, in 2006.  They were married on July 20, 2007.  In the summer of 2008, God told Bro. Ricky that it was time for him to go full-time for Gospel Broadcasting.  He resigned the pastorate of the church that he loved so he could be faithful to what God had called him to do.  Bro. Ricky Cothren and Mrs.Kristi stepped out on faith and went full-time for Gospel Broadcasting.

“Faithful” describes Bro. Ricky Cothren’s life and ministry.  Since he was saved in 1978, Bro. Ricky has been faithful to serve God in the small things and in the big things.  Bro. Ricky has never let his lack of sight limit him from serving God.  He instead has used it to reach people for the Lord.
